Central South Dakota
3 phase is definitely worth it in the long haul. We got 3 phase brought into the place for free because our bin site was within 200' of where the line ran. Just remember though, that you more than likely pay a upfront demand charge with 3 phase no matter how much power you use.

Example: It costs us a minimum of $1k to start up one fan motor . So say you find a hot spot in your bin on the 28th of the month, to start the fan is a minimum of $1k. If the fan is still sunning on the first of the next month you get dinged another $1k. After the first fan goes on, it doesn't matter after that your done with the 1k demand and just paying for power. We can have 400 hp worth of fans running at one time in the fall sometimes. Now using the unloaders never uses enough power to trigger the demand charge.

So basically what I'm saying is know when your demand charges start and stop and the price with 3 phase because for us, if we haven't ran any fans for that month and can wait 2-3 days to roll into the new month, it is $1000 in our pocket "here"
