Farwell, Tx
I’m on the fence about this.. I’m leaning towards the soil health movement and they say that you need a living root growing 24/7/365.. I have seen benefits of this on irrigated cropland..

People think cover crops use so much moisture but what they use in moisture you gain back in water holding capacity and microbial life..

Also remember multi species covers are seeding at very low rates so it does not use lots of moisture unless you let it grow to long in the spring..(kill it prior to reproductive stage)

This year when my wheat came off I planted a $20 an acre cover and did not have to spray it all summer or plow it all summer like usual.. I grazed part of it and then planted wheat into all of it..

It makes sense to me but what do I know..
