Like you, I am a libertarian. But I think the Libertarian Party and many of its adherents have forgotten that every liberty carries with it a responsibility. The Catch-22 with mind altering drugs is that they make people behave irresponsibly. Can you begin to see the problem here?
There's no denying that. I won't ever apologize for the irresponsible actions of others. But if you are okay with limiting the freedom of others to make their own choices, what other rights are you willing to remove for in the name of safety?

1.1 Self-Ownership
Individuals own their bodies and have rights over them that other individuals, groups, and governments may not violate. Individuals have the freedom and responsibility to decide what they knowingly and voluntarily consume, and what risks they accept to their own health, finances, safety, or life. | |
