In the old days, I would rather pay, get the product, install it, and be done. Maybe get a free Service Pack or something to fix things.

But those were the old days. Now when people count on their devices for banking, paying, retirement accounts, security against intruders has become a lot bigger issue.

If you want to fire up your XP machine and do what you want on the internet forever, go ahead.

But there is too much at risk for the old days.

I don't subscribe to anti virus, don't buy Office via subscription, nothing.

BUT, I do see the time coming where everyone will basically pay a monthly "fee" to have the latest, greatest, safest, and most secure operating system.

Wait until the first sabotage of Android or Apple hijacking on a big scale start - and it will happen, only question is when and what will be done after it happens.
