As I said in my first reply..... read the 5 principles of soil health that seem to be recognized by NRCS.....

1,2 and 4 are directly effected by vertical till vs NoTill... aren’t they? In regard to the OP?

1-maintain residue cover.....

2- minimize disturbance.....

4-keep a living root......

I didn’t write the rules.....nor ask the original question

cant and not arguing the principal list of soil health. just giving my experience of pros and cons of knocking stalks down.

at the local nrcs we had a meeting about no till and soil health. There were many curious farmers that are wanting to improve their soil health. they were expressing that if they just simply no till they're automatically having beautiful healthy soil overnight.

NRCS is trying to put together programs to show local farmers that no-till can work in our area but it's a program and not just simply not tilling the field.
And if they want to improve soil health getting out of a corn and soybean rotation is an important step. Bringing in a cover crops is another big step and introducing animals back to the fields rounds of the big three steps.
