ecmn | no till isn't automatically soil health.
its a great start and has some health benefits to it.
disturbing the top inch of soil while chopping residue isn't going to ruin anything.
what are the pros and cons of it on your ground?
if you knock the stalks down they are less of a pain during planting like snagging harness's or hoses,
less stubble damage to tires
no knocking chains off.
if you VT the stalks unless its highly erodible soil I see no problem other then the cost and time.
after having chains knocked off while planting, stalk chunks plugging fan inlets, wrecking wiring and hoses a VT pass to knock stalks down is a good move!
I do not care about wearing a no till or strip till or conventional till hat. I care about soil health and my pocket book.
have a heavy rotary hoe and used it to lay corn stalks down and it was great to strip till or plant into it.
