I agree with cover crops before corn are still a mystery for me.
I have read that you should terminate rye or cc at 8” tall and it needs to be brown brown brown before planting corn into it. We only knife in nh3 and have added 30# more where we have tried rye before corn.
Thought I saw the nrcs suggest terminating cc at the time of planting or after for the eastern corn belt areas. I though that was unusual as Iowa was suggested a week before planting.
