If you need to lower your SCC fast in order to keep shipping, you need to find out which quarters are sending out the most somatic cells and keep those out of the tank. I use one of those electronic SCC readers. DHI tells me which cows are high contributors and then I use the reader to find which quarter is the problem (if it is not obvious). Either dump the milk from those quarters or kill the quarter. Yes you will end up with some 3 teaters, but you might only see a 5% drop in overall production from those cows. The main thing is you will lower your SCC immediately, and should get more for each CWT of milk you ship, so it is a win-win.
