+1. I don't agree with beating the dog up to show then who is boss. Typically there are puppy school classes that you can attend a few sessions and go from there. And important part of puppy school is introducing them to other dogs.

Pit bulls can be very good dogs. Good luck.
Another option would be a training collar. Again I don't agree with physical beating but a correction tone/shock may be all you need.

Now is the time to start teaching. And invisible fence is a necessity if you live near a road with any traffic or just want to keep the dog from wandering.
