How about rigging up a multicoupler like Deere uses on their loaders on the back of the tractor, with corresponding couplers on the implements? Easy to hook up, just would take some fab work, and plumb the remotes to it. Would be some dollars, but let dad keep his independence.
None of the couplers work very well if your shoulders are worn out, in my opinion, but the Deere 5E is a pretty simple tractor.
