ih_farm - 2/16/2017 20:37 I've been trying to fix pot roast for a number of years. It just never seems to turn out like moms. I've tried leaving the water out putting a little water in. And just about every kind of roast you can have. It always seems to dry out. Please tell me what I am doing wrong. I'm cooking it in a crock pot.
How long are you cooking it, set on high or low, how big is it, etc. Not knowing the particulars, I would recommend a starting point of using a slow-cooker liner bag, cook on low and with enough water to just cover the bottom. Flip it at 3 or 4 hours. I've never had a problem with putting one on low for 7-8 hours and it not drying out. If you want to try something different, I've got a recipe where you throw in Dr. Pepper and a few other things and it makes its own gravy as it cooks. Surprisingly it's not sweet and tastes pretty much like regular gravy.

Some crockpots get way to hot.  Do a little checking on temp after cooking a while.  Your low may be set way to high and it just scorches it on high.
Does your lid seal well on top?
