I believe there are no subsciption fees with RTK right?

No unless you subscribe to an RTK Network.

I have a GS2 system, so will I have to update the software or components? (reciever, screen, etc.)

At a minimum you will need to buy an RTK activation for each SF receiver and a radio. This assumes you are at the AutoTrac SF2 level.

Are differnt RTK systems compatible with eachother? (eg. JD/Outback/Trimble)

No they are not compatible.

Can I run an unlimited number of ATU's off one RTK base?

Yes.

Is the range of the RTK base line of sight only? What can I expect for a range?

Line of sight to the RTK base station is necessary. Deere says 12 mile range for 1" accuracy 68% of the time if the vehicle has a SF iTC receiver. Signal distance varies but accuracy degrades the farther the signal travels.

I think I heard about signal repeaters to send the correction to other ATU's is this an added component?

A repeater can be used to fill in blank areas in a field.

When you move the base station to your next field, how long does it need sitting still to start sending you a good signal?

Deere has a quick survey mode if you do not want repeatable accuracy or absolute survey mode for repeatability. This assumes the receiver returns to the exact same location each time.
