We have river rock around the in ground pool, no problems, mulch everywhere else. Fabric under the rocks, little Roundup every year, simple stuff really. Use Preen on the mulch to kill the few weeds that do try to show up. Didn't want the mulch blowing into the pool, she has roses and all kinds of neat plants planted in the river rocks........no problems.
