I would think when corn gets shaded hay would suffer and when you chop the silage you would have lots of tracks in hay field which would leave you with poor stand and rough field. I am very picky when I start alfalfa I want field smooth and I seed 25 -30 lbs per ac with 1/2 -3/4 bu. oats per ac. I cut oats for hay not grain. Alfalfa seed is to high to risk a poor stand . In my 8 years of custom baling I have never seen a rough and poorly seeded field out yield one that was done right . Jmo


I agree...

Alfalfa is not some second class crop that you can just half -A$$ in the ground.

Land is expensive, seed is expensive, time is expensive.....You cant afford to get the best possible stand no matter what the crop.
