Subject: Historical weather and corn production 1980-1989.

Mascoutah, Illinois
According to historians, this is the coldest winter in the United States since 1979. The same historians claim the 1979 winter was the coldest in a century. I went looking for data to see what impacts if any the winter might have had on corn production in 1980. It turns out the 1980 corn crop was the third smallest crop of the decade which ran from 80-89. The 1983 and the 1988 crop were the two smallest crops of the 1980's. Does anyone have any weather data as to how the 1980 crop year played out?

I know times are far different now as technology has changed the game, but will this harsh winter set the tone for one of the smallest crops of this decade? Any thoughts?
