Subject: RE: mapping seed as-planted

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
The EZ-Guide 500 can create a Coverage Map. It will show you where you've been and what you've "covered". It does not allow you to split the situation into various regions (Seed Varieties etc.) or make an onscreen map of rates etc.

This is the area where the Insight with the various possible modules shines compared to some other products. The Insight has a very complete data managment system.

In a planting scenario you can do a variety of things all at the same time. For example we are working on a pretty much "maxed out" planting setup that will do several things at planting time.

In this planter setup, one or two varieties (split planter) of seed can be logged/mapped. The planter is equipped with the Ag Leader Seed Command module to control Tru-Count Air Clutches to handle row shutoff.

The tractor is also equipped with saddle tanks that will hold a liquid product. This product is monitored/controlled/logged/mapped with the combination of the Insight and the Liquid Control Module.

The planter is pulling a Flexicoil dry cart that has two bins. Each of the products in the two bins will be monitored/controlled/logged/mapped by use of the Ag Leader Strip-till module.

This means a total of 5 things are being recorded at planting time. This is the limit allowed by the Insight due to screen space and other considerations.

The Insight could also act as the interface to a Trimble Autopilot but this is not being done in this setup.

This same tractor will be doing the spraying in this operation. At that time the liquid system used at planting will be working with the spray mixture.

At harvest time any of the activities done on the field can be used as a background reference map. This means that the combine operator can have the variety map as the reference map (most likely) but could also look at any of the other maps if they should desire. The harvest map commonly overlays the reference map but the on screen harvest map can be temporarily hidden if desired.

All these activities are being recorded in the Insight as an .ilf file. This file can be transferred to the memory card and loaded into a software program on the computer. Ag Leader's SMS and others can process these files to produce a variety of maps and summaries. The Insight can also create an Application report itself if desired. This is a .pdf file that can be transferred and printed by most any computer and does not require other fancy software.
