North west MN | Yes but the penalty for not planting the beets would be 500 to 600 a acre. In reality the 90 year old stockholder that cannot grow the beets might not be responsible because at the last meeting they said that they would not transfer the beet stock back to someone that does not have the means grow and harvest beets. So the grower that rented a few extra beets on a one year contract with the stockholder last year may have to grow beets till the 5 year agreement with crystal runs out in 2018.
So if you own beet stock and cannot farm the beets yourself you are never going to get the stock back in your name. It will have to be transferred into another Joint Venture rental agreement.
