Moorhead, MN | I couldn't find the ad Badger. Are you saying a grower wants to "rent" stock and wants the shareholder to pay him $250? That is being talked about, and anybody can ask for the moon - right? It has been a very poor year for sugar prices, and the rents paid last year were based on record high prices. Now the pendulum has swung and I hear many talking of zero rents. Nothing to do with the co-op, but between shareholder and grower. (I am neither). The shareholder (who most often is the grower) is required to produce an acre or so of beets for each share owned. From what budgets I've seen, 2014 costs exceed projected income for beets - very similar to my corn, beans, and wheat. "Paying" a tenant to raise the crop may show the best return (at least on paper) for 2014. | |
