Thin layers, lots of weight. Enough air pressure to pack but not too much that you don't have traction to push. Also takes less time to pack the whole surface of the pit with 800's that with 380's. Keep running the tractor and don't stop. An 800 will pack just fine. We did density on our haylage and corn silage piles and it is better with the 9520 that it was with the 8000's. 9520 alone was higher than the 8410 and a sheepsfoot packer together.
