| I was doing some hard calculating tonight using my numbers for feeding etc.
One year bull: 29.78 cow
Two years: 17.34 cow
The interesting thing is I've often wondering how some cow calf guys can afford these expensive 4000 dollar bulls that I see a lot of guys buy.
I figured again, using my feed numbers that a 4000 dollar bull used for 3 years on 30 cows per year costs 27.88/cow. They don't raise any bigger or better calves IMO, either. And that's a lot of risk if he injures himself during the first breeding season.
So I'm a little expensive trading off every year but not far off. And there are few guys around here that lease, and I don't know how I'd like that anyhow, I like to keep a closed herd. I guess I'd go for it if it was a virgin bull but if its been with some else cows, that's risky. | |
