Burlington, IA | First, type in "feline rabies" into your favorite search function, and get the facts from a plethora of veterinary and pet health sites, as opposed to the emotion of a number of varying opinions. Second, when you say "bite", did it break the skin/draw blood, or was it simply a hard nip that caught the child by surprise? If the latter, then there is no risk of infection. Thirdly, if you have it caged, just take it to the vet, and let them examine it. They're the experts. There are a number of symptoms that they'll look for, besides the obvious ones we've all heard about. If they see none of the symptoms they're looking for, they'll keep it quarantined for a number of days to make sure its not infected. Chances are, it was just a little spooked, and/or not used to children, and too much attention caused a reaction. Just take it to the vet, and they'll be able to give you concrete answers, and guide you on what to do from there. Just keep your wits about you, be informed, be proactive in letting the vets help you, and you will get clear cut answers in short order, assuming they are genuine bites. Good luck, and best wishes for a positive outcome. JDH |
