New Mexico
consumes a pile of natural feed.

Might as well be utilized with pairs.

I just don't understand why it seems posters here that fall calf do not wean those calves bout Dec 1st.

Jeez, that saves a pile of feed AND is a lot easier on cows.

Granted my version of fall calfing is Done by Oct 1st ( and done by Sept 1st is better yet ).

The only way to save feed in a drouth is short weaning calves ( does not matter when your calfing cycle is ).
( granted another way is to adjust your calfing cycle to not be feeding p 3's or pairs during hard cold weather too )

It can be fairly cost effective and a lot of supp feed choices to "supp" feed some in hot dry.

Deep cold though....it takes real FEED to carry heavy breds or pairs.
