Ontario, Canada | On the topic of contract hog production, the contract in only worth the paper it's written on. I farm in Ontario where hog production is loosing $60+ per hog. The contract feeders that were suppose to get $13 - $16 per hog all of a sudden found themselves getting 10% of market price. Sows herds are being liquidated and so contract weaner and finisher barns are going to go empty. Those that are staying in it are redoing their contracts or looking for someone new to contract with at a lower price. Gloom hangs in the air. It's pretty sad. | |
