runningbehind - 4/27/2013 07:27 first find a farm magt group near you if possible. Avergage equipment cost/acre here is in the $65/75 per acre range. So 400 acres $25k is a realistic number. Start with a good jd8820 $12k. Now you can find a couple hundred acres of custom work to help cashflow. You don't have alot of money left to work with, but there is enough. Even trade combining with the neighbor for planting, ect. I have a really hard time believing there are many farms that have a total equipment value that is in that range. Cost/acre/yr, maybe, but not total investment. That would mean a guy that farms 1000 acres only has $75,000 of equipment. That would mean a guy that farms 2000 acres only has $150,000 of equipment. That would mean a guy that farms 3000 acres only has $225,000 of equipment. That would mean a guy that farms 4000 acres only has $300,000 of equipment. That would mean a guy that farms 5000 acres only has $375,000 of equipment. I think you get the idea. None of those numbers buys very much equipment relative to the acres and I don't see many guys that are farming any of those number of acres with that little bit of equipment value without hiring a lot of things done.
