You will have to drop your wheat seeding rate back I think. I seeded 90lbs of Durum and about 4 lbs of alfalfa/red clover and it grew until about heading when the wheat choked it out. You might be better off spreading the alfalfa seed before seeding than then allowing the drill to do a little incorporation. I think it is too deep if you are going to seed them together.

Also, having the alfalfa outside the rows might mean it survives better because of less competition from the wheat.
