sc ia | Yea he fed them hay in the winter and provided a white salt block maybe even an occasional bag of mineral. He said the cows weaned their calves on their own. Anyway they didn't let the older calf nurse when a new one was born. I usually hauled them to the sale barn so I was around the herd some. They were a quiet bunch and not too much trouble to load considering his poor load out facilities. Any heifers that he liked he just didn't sell and they became part of the herd. He would buy a bull every few years but it looked to me like some of the bull calves we loaded would be breeders. Probably not the ideal way to manage a herd but that is what he done. | |
