60 days before peak grass in your area. Cow's peak lactation needs then coincide with your peak grass and calving is late enough to avoid most bad weather. In my area peak grass growth is around the first week in June. So start calving the first of April. I was aiming for mid March to try to get more growth on the calves but caught a couple storms. I want cows to be able to find some bare ground (not snow or ice covered) up on the ridge in the calving pasture where they can go have their calf. Starting 4/1 means most calves will be on the ground by 4/20 or so. Jim I've had good luck using this gestation chart from the AHA
