Not knowing the crop and other particulars I would have to say that if you want to keep it you need to talk with the landlord and see if you can come to an agreement that works for both of you . Nothing else and no one else matters unless he is using some one else as leverage to up the rent .

I share cropped for years . Some years you could do extremely well and other not so . Same for the land owner . Sooner or later some get a bad case of me only and greedy money . Not nice but a fact of life .
