| The selection of contour method used for a dense dataset, such as yield, is not terribly important. This decision does become somewhat more important when working with sparse datasets, such as soil test points. But, with sparse datasets the decision regarding sample spacing must be made first. And the reality is no one can afford to soil sample at the best sample spacing.
There is a tremendous amount of literature out there, some of it going back 10 years, on this subject. It gets very complicated and the response by most precision ag practioners is to go with gut feel. This is not a criticism. For example, Don Glenn and Arnie Hinkson each do things differently. And for valid reasons. But I am certain each of them has a good handle on what is going on in their fields, respectively. | |
