EC Kansas
A few decades ago the local, small dealership had an old parts guy who could, about half or more of the time, tell you what the part was, part number, if it was in stock, on order, or backordered from Timbuktoo for X number of days as soon as you laid the part on the counter. All this with an everpresent cigarette dangling from his lips. Never encountered one like that since, but I'm guessing the 84 year old guy knew a few. With the complexity of machinery now and the amount of electronics involved, I doubt anyone could do that today. I've dealt with quite a few beginners since then; sometimes they get pretty good, sometimes you just can't fix stupid.
