NC
I normally don't wean till I sell them for the Easter Market.
Lambing was 2-3 wks late this year.
My problem is aggravated by an early greenup this year. When the grasses green up the ewes travel and won't come back to the bunks to eat(same TMR I feed the calves). They loose condition fast and the lambs quit growing good(crappy fescue). And there is less protection for them from dogs(the donkey can't follow them thru the calf fences).

I had to wean some that were only 5 weeks old and some triplets that were WAY too small.
Not going to be a great year this year. But on the up side I only have 50 hd and I can probably shift them over to a fall lambing and try again :)

When I get my barn and expand I am going to have a fall and spring lambing and ewes will switch between the two when they miss. I will get more lambs on the ground and down here thats where the money is.
Only way I can see sheep working longterm...........They can lamb on pasture(if the weather is ok) but then they have to go into a barn and the lambs have to stay there till I sell them.
