Saskatchewan, big whitetail country!!!

Oliver1 - 2/29/2012 11:03 You must be counting a fair amount of feed gained from the pasture, otherwise, with really good feed conversion it's 8+ bu of corn, 100 lb of SBM and 65 lb of DDG's or so. Just the 8 bu at today's "oppurtunity cost" here = $50 per pig. Plus you need to grind and mix this stuff. I would be very willing to bet your pasture doesn't go for $12-20,000 per acre. And we raise hogs year round here. Otherwise, what fun would that be ? :)

We grow field peas, barley, oats, wheat, flax, among many other crops up here, and so coming up with an economical mix is pretty simple. Peas and faba beans in particular round out a ration very well.

I have old mixers and mills to process it where needed.

Pasture land is cheap up here for sure! But I would do it in my yard area that is unfarmable anyway. Heck excellent grain land here is probably cheaper than your rents are! lol That indeed makes a big difference.
