Most household automatic drip coffee makers do not get the water hot enough when the brewing cycle begins. I prefer the cone type filters over the flat bottom Mr Coffee style. A lot of folks just do not put enough coffee in the coffee maker to start with and there are all kinds of coffee on the market now and some are much stronger or bolder than others. Also there are different grinds for each type of coffee maker.
Bunn coffee makers pre-heat the water and then dump it into the grounds which makes them much faster. The trade off is that it is setting there full of hot water all the time.
