Subject: Re: Corn on corn tillage?

Hancock county, Illinois
Yield of corn? How much residue? We one pass vertical tillage (VT), then 730C with 7" points for anything 120 bushel on up. Dont bother with VT on low yield farms of which we had several this year. Then fall NH3 when it cools down. Spring apply 30 gallon 28%, incorporate with field cultivator or CIH Turbo 330. Have tried the plow first then hit with VT but as mafrif said only thing it helped was make soil smoother for NH3 application. Erosion prone farms we will put straight points on 730C or 1st pass with VT, apply NH3, 2nd pass with VT. I am 100% corn on corn. Yes, I take a yield hit, economics still favor corn. 3 river terminals and ethanol plant all within 50 miles. I would like to try no till corn after corn but my courage is running a little low right now. Forget strip till, around here since fall 2006 the strip tillers only had 2 years to get fall strips in.
