What sources and how do you apply your nitrogen? That is an important consideration when choosing different types of tillage.
If you don't bury all your stalks you need some N surface applied to balance the C:N ratio where the plant will be growing early on. If you apply all of your N with NH3, plowing would be a better match. IMHO

I think discing after the deep ripping would be a waste of time and money, very little residue would be cut when laying on soft fresh worked dirt.
