Southeast Florida | Versatile Farmer, I’m not one to argue I just prove my point. First thing them Steiger’s with manual truck transmissions were never in our part of the world. There are/were plenty of PTA ‘s here pulling sugarcane wagons. The PTA used an Allison 754 and I have a CU-360 with a 754 also powered by a 3406B CAT. I seen quite a few Versatile’s with the axles broke in Arkansas and seen plenty broke pulling pans. The old red ones would break in the middle and the blue ones would just break axle shaft coming out the differential into the planetary gears. Here’s there are plenty of Steiger’s and one Versatile that I know of. The Versatile’s don’t have enough weight to put the power to ground without hanging ballast iron all over it and that’s when the axles would break. As for your clutch problems a dry clutch is a bad idea in my book. The 9280 you had problems with, occasionally a bad apple falls from a tree but I’ve had pretty good luck with them. | |
