Axles do not commonly break on Steigers.  They break enough on Versatiles to provide for an aftermarket axle tube made from actual steel so it will hold.  Frames do not twist or crack on Steigers.  There's a reason the Versatile OM says to never pull the tractor out from the front frame. 

I wouldn't think of saying that Steigers don't have mechanical problems, but they seldom break into pieces.  Versatiles may have less mechanical problems, but they DO break into pieces from time to time.    That 10,000 lb difference in light weight is not entirely inconsequential.
