We've used the "removal rate" for spreading fertilizer needs in corn & beans for a long time. I've wondered too, if one utlizes this method of university-based scientific knowledge, can one expect LESS nutrient removal from crops grown in strip-till configuration? It would seem to me it wouldn't matter the manner of tillage, or lack of it, the fact that 150 bus (or whatever) of corn or beans removes an almost specific amount of P & K from the soil & it's hauled away in the grain truck disguised as corn or beans, but perhaps I'm missing something. The major midwest university fertilizer folks some to agree on the amount of removal within reason.
