There is no downside as long as you realize that you may have to supplement the banding with variable rate broadcasting from time to time. The need for broadcasting will depend upon your soil tests of course.
For my ridge till operation I band P & K in the ridge every season. I don't move the band 15" every season for obvious reasons. Areas that need more fert. will be spread broadcast. The cultivator can then push the fert. into the ridge for next year's crop.
