i believe all your questions need to be asked. The above posts have alot of good advice. Cover cropping is a lot like no till-there are so many variables and so many geographic/climate differences that need to be considered to give your best chance at success. I've found it helpful to ask the question, "What am I trying to accomplish with a cover crop in a particular situation". Then plan it from there.

Cover cropping is not a black and white concept. It's more about creating and taking advantage of ANY opportunity to use them in your system. And you cropping system or sequence may have to change if merited. Once you understand this, then you have to educate youself to the point of trying something on a small scale and experimenting as much as you are comfortable with.
