Yes, I have learned a lot from Mike's postings. I ask the question about temperature because though Mike graciously gives out the information, how many take it into consideration before they plant the cover, and does it effect the choice for cover? In other words, yes, I am a complete newbee to this cover crop concept and dont quite know how to follow some information as it is over my head. But, in my area, the cropping is quite diverse with irrigation and tiled feilds. Please be patient with me as I try to get a better handle on the basics of this concept.

My dad used to use cover crops way back when, but it was before I was born. In the 70s commercial fertilizers and herbicides were really making headway into the farming around here, negating the need for cover crops....................or so they figured and trained the next several generations to believe.

Dad disking a rye cover a long, long time ago.
