Subject: Electric fence wire question

Driftless SW Wisconsin

I have a new fence that I was considering adding an electric wire to the inside to keep the cattle off of the barb wire.  Mostly metal T posts. Total length of electric wire would be about 3/4 to 1 mile.

I am not at all familiar with electric fencing  but have looked at a number of different types. This would be a "permanent" wire about 5" inside the 5 strand barb. Fence goes up and down rolling terrain so want to keep cattle off of it as much as possible.

Should I use the standard solid all-metal wire or one of the more visible white braided wires? Looks like the braided would not be as durable nor conductive. Looking for 6 joules. Mostly Herefords. Any particular wire brands or types to look for? How high off of the ground would you put the electric wire?

Another question, I have a lane about 16 ft wide to get from one pasture to water, 5 strand barb on both sides. Any problem putting electric on one or both insides of lane? One side is a perimeter fence.
