Deadduck - 4/3/2007 09:25 Agreed. Here in the MS River Delta, the best land has always been planted to cotton. Much of this is irrigated class I soils. Many midwesterners seem to think that cotton is raised on poor ground, and it may be in some areas. But in the Delta and many places in the south, cotton is on the best land, and if it'll make 2-3 bale cotton, it'll make 200 bu corn, or better. State average in Louisiana is 135 bu, but that includes the dryland corn or corn planted on low ground that can sometimes flood. With all this good irrigated ground going to corn, there is the potential for a much higher average yeild than that this year. May or may not happen, but don't assume that all the crop outside the corn belt is on marginal ground. As early as this crop went in, we'll be well into harvest by the end of July, so we should dodge most of the hurricane activity. Keith
