Get a good harrow hooked to the back of the plow. Or, somthing that would knock the air pocket, (fluffiness) out of the ground and smooth it up. Of course it depends on how wet the soil is and the object is to keep the ground smooth and a little "fluffy" but not raggity and fluffy as the plow leaves the ground. (might require more ponies on the front but beats anothe pass across the field trying to accomplish the same thing) I watched a guy years ago pulling a "train" behind his cat with tracks. He was going from sweet corn stubble in an irrigated field to planted winter wheat in a single pass. (looked like he had every piece of equipment he owned hooked behind that Cat. He was pulling a chisel plow-heavy disk-heavy harrow-seedbed maker-grain drill on the very back. He was only operating 12 foot wide but was pretty impressive how the field was coated in corn stubble-and trash in front of the Cat and behind the grain drill it was a smooth seeded grain field with most all of the corn stubble worked in enough to ditch the field for the next irrigation. |
