Burlington, IA | The best thing you can do on spring plowed ground is to hit it with a cultimulcher anywhere from a couple of hours to 24 hours after it's plowed, depending on rate of drying, which will be dependent on weather conditions. Hit it at the right time, and the cultimulcher will take out any air pockets, help reduce/eliminate clods, and otherwise firm the ground. The teeth in the middle should be all the way down, or close to it for best results. That trip can be followed up by a pass with a disc or field cultivator, depending on your program.
I wouldn't dream of planting right behind the plow in this part of the country. My .02.
