Southeastern Alberta
I never really liked the PCVT data. Seemed to have a lot of holes in it most of the time, and it really only encompassed traditional canola growing areas (Not helpful at all to my area in the Palliser Triangle). The problem is that there are so many varieties to try to test. Even if you could get farmers to test 2 or 3 varieties, and do it scientifically, and actually report the results -there would still probably be large gaps or small sample sizes with which to compile results.

I think most canola growers are more progressive than some cereal farmers, in that they are going to try a bag of a new variety or two next to their old standby to see how they compare. With the advent of GPS and yield monitors or weigh wagons, a farmer can get a really good idea of how everything works on his farm with his management practices -which is much more important than how a maximum tillage practice at Melfort grows canola to a guy in Southern Alberta direct seeding!
