Little River, TX | A lot of fine points mentioned.
Some years ago, when there was still a Journal of Production Agriculture, there was a paper published on grid sizes. I believe the study was done in a Corn Belt site.
They concluded a 72 ft by 72 ft grid was the most accurate grid size.
In Better Crops from PPI an Oklahoma study was done using a one foot grid in a 490 sq ft plot.
The fertility variability on a foot by foot basis is enough to make you dizzy.
I believe Ohio did much the same with smaller plots and 8 in by 8 in squares.
If you want to give it a try go pull 4 or 5 probes from a one sq ft block, move over a few feed and do the same. It would be interesting to know the results.
California does a lot of peculiar things but they do recommend sampling by zones.
I have never tried to understand what the Texas party line is. | |
