| Thing is Phil, the coulter was going to full depth at that amount of down pressure. You may have seen some of the pictures of the earlier planting where I was drilling into dry soil and having some weight issues. However the field in the picture you saved, was drilled in november last year and the soil was quite wet and easily penetrated. The coulters were getting to the full preset depth of the guage wheels all the time. The issue with a unflailed grass crown, is the wheel, especially the wide ones, will ride up on top of the crown as seen in the close up pic, and the coulter will not have the ability to seed into a trench, leaving the seed on top of the soil or partially planted and not covered. The horizontal swords keep the closing wheel riding up and over the trench. | |
