Subject: Re: Wood Ash as Liming Source

Aurora, NC
We have used a bunch of ash. We spread it with a Chandler litter spreader with a few modifications to spread a little more even and not drop so much right behind the spreader chain. It is very variable and in our experience reacts a little slower than dolomitic lime. Good K and P source no N to speak of and some micros. It is funny to handle. If it is warm when you get it you better spread it shortly or spread it out then after it cools push it in a pile. Most ash runs 3 to1 to as high as 8 to 1, know what you have.
