Subject: Wood Ash as Liming Source

Central To Everything and Close to Nothing

I would like to get some comments from anyone that has used wood ash as a liming source.  I'm working with a new field that has pH's in the 4.5 to 5 range and is in desperate need of an adjustment.  We have a local wood fired co-gen plant that is close by and the wood ash is free so the only cost is the freight and application.  Typically our soils are high pH (7+) so the need to lime is VERY rare.  If you have used Wood Ash, how did you apply it?  I would like to use the local retailers floater which is a Case 810 Air-flex so that we can VRT the product but I'm not sure if this unit could handle the product effectively.  I will also post this in Machinery talk.  Thanks in advance!
